The Forbidden City lies in the heart of Beijing.  It was constructed in the 1400s and got its name because it was designed to replicate the Purple Palace of heaven and ordinary people for forbidden from entering it.  The palace is composed of 90 palaces and courtyards, over 900 buildings and over 8,000 rooms.

The Temple of Heaven is a holy imperial temple.  It is considered a masterpiece.  This temple is where the emperor came during the winter solstice to worship.  The temple was designed based upon complex numerological ideas, which are easily seen throughout.  

The Tiananmen Square measures 440,000 square meters, can hold about 1 million people and is the largest city square in the world.  It is used for gatherings and public events.  In the square are numerous activities and things to see.  Here you will find various ceremonies, the Museum of China, the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and the Monument of the National Heroes.  

Last, but certainly not least of the sites you will want to take in when visiting Beijing, China is the Great Wall.  This wall is a awe inspiring piece of architectural genius.  It was built in 1505 and at its highest spots stands 8.4 meters high with an average width of 5.7 meters.  It offers the most amazing views of the countryside below and is a must see when visiting this area. 

When visiting Beijing you must be aware of the weather.
